WHAT MAKES HIM AN AWESOME TUTOR

image-asset (31).jpeg

I like to find out what a student is passionate about, in or outside of school, and find a way to make math relevant to their personal journey. Education isn't about about pleasing your parents or meeting the expectations of your teachers; it's an opportunity to invest in yourself, and to be better prepared to pursue your dreams, whatever they may. My best attributes, related to to tutoring are, in order: 1.Patience 2.Honesty and 3. Understanding

FUN FACTS

Life goal: To perform at Massey Hall. Also to travel around the southern United States, and the world at large (especially Spain).

Words to Live By: You don't HAVE to do anything, but you've got to do SOMETHING.

Favourite Mathematical Weapon: I'm always preaching the problem solving method. It's a great demonstration that it's always possible to reach our goals. Even when the solution seems distant, we can get there by building our toolbox and taking concrete steps in the right direction.

Education: Out of high school I initially had a double major of physics and engineering. I studied at UPEI in my home town of Charlottetown. Eventually I was drawn towards engineering because of it's practical, real world applications and critical analysis. I received my diploma for engineering at UPEI and went on to get my bachelors of mechanical engineering from Dalhousie in Halifax.

Fave Tech device: I am, admittedly, a bit of a Luddite, and not always up to date on the latest digital trends. My most recent purchase was a GoPro, which I have to say has been a lot of fun, and is a nice compliment to my digital audio interface.

Fave Book: Player Piano - Kurt Vonnegut

Fave Song: Song for You - Leon Russell

Fave Outfit: My David Bowie space pirate getup

Fave TV Show: The Simpsons, Last Week Tonight, QI with Stephen Fry

Fave Movie: Austin Powers, Brazil, Forrest Gump

When you're not crunching numbers:  Music has always been a big part of my life, whether playing it, listening, or catching a live band. I also like to read in my down time, mostly fiction. In the summer time I'm big on getting outside and taking it in, beach trips, canoeing, camping, and bridge jumping.

What’s the best thing about you? I'm pretty resilient. I strive to maintain a positive attitude through nearly any set of circumstance.

NERD ALERT!

Video games will always hold a place in my heart. Growing up in the '90s we came up on Nintendo, SNES, N64 and Playstation. I still play very occasionally when I have free time (almost never). I always liked RPGs and the odd shooter. I used to play online but can't keep up with the competition anymore. When I was in high school I did a bit of modding and mapmaking for different projects, and this is something I'd like to do again in the future.
